So much to see and do - experience the real Tuscany

Combine wonderful day trips with a wealth of activities nearby.

Take day trips to Florence, Pisa, the beautiful walled city of Lucca, the seaside, the ski resort at Abetone, the beaches of Versilia and the famous Cinque Terre, a world heritage site of five villages clinging to the cliffs on the other side of the Bay of Poets. Two hills away is the lovely, lively town of Barga, "the most Scottish town in Italy" which hosts a Jazz Festival, an opera festival, and even a Fish and Chip Festival!

For the adventurous, there are stunning cycling routes; official hiking trails called sentieri, the nearest of which starts only a few minutes away; the biggest canyon in Tuscany, the Orrido di Botri, with the chance of seeing Royal (Golden) eagles and even wolves. The village lies above the Serchio River Valley, and in the summer you can swim in pools in the River Lima or go white water rafting on one of Italy's biggest rivers.

At Bagni di Lucca, a short drive away, you can experience the famous steam caves where the source is 47 degrees: Napoleon's sister frequently visited to take the waters, widely believed to have curative properties. Your hosts can help you book a visit or even a whole spa day.

Visit the famous Calomini Hermitage, carved into the cliff face, before visiting the Grotto del Vento, where visitors can see wondrous stalagtites and stalagmites on guided one-, two- or three-hour walks, or book a more adventurous caving experience.

We will help you plan an unforgettable holiday.
